Chapter 24:
Frey stood at the threshold of the open vault. A golden light poured from within, illuminating the dark stone beneath his feet. The air was charged with quiet intensity, the scent of metal and age lingering in the atmosphere. Behind him, the shattered remnants of the chains that had bound the vault lay smoldering on the floor. The Keepers were gone, erased by the rupture Frey had caused, but the weight of the moment still pressed into his own.”You’ve undone the bond,” Heka said, standing at his side. But that was only the first step.”
He stepped through the archway and into the vault.
The light shifted as he moved forward, illuminating a circular chamber lined with ancient stone tablets. Symbols flickered across their surfaces, glyphs of contracts, promises, debts, and agreements.
In the center of the chamber was a pedestal made of polished black stone. Upon it lay an object that seemed to pulse with life: a single silver coin, perfectly round, etched with shifting symbols that twisted and reshaped themselves as Frey approached.”The first coin ever minted,” Heka said, his voice low.”The birth of Debt. The foundation of credit. Frey’s gaze sharpened. This… is it.”
“The beginning of the system,” Heka replied. And the mechanism that sustains it.”
Frey stepped closer. The coin’s symbols twisted, shifting into recognizable shapes: balance sheets, ledgers, and signatures marked with trembling hands.”It’s not just money,“ Heka said. It’s consent. Frey’s hand hovered over the coin.”The contract, “The first contract,” Heka said. The agreement that established the rules. Those who understood it first became the architects of the system. Those who signed it became the foundation of its power. Frey’s mind raced. If this coin holds the contract, then whoever controls it controls the system. Frey’s breath quickened. His hand hovered over the coin. He could feel the hum of energy radiating from it, vibrating his arm. The weight of centuries pressed against his chest. This wasn’t just about wealth. This was about control.”The system isn’t broken,“ Frey murmured. It’s a trap,“ Heka said Debt does not weigh until you believe you owe it.“
His mind was flooded with visions of empires rising and falling, fortunes made and lost, and lives destroyed beneath the weight of Debt never meant to be repaid. He saw the first agreement, ink drying on parchment beneath trembling hands. He saw the moment when Debt shifted from necessity to control, around the coin, when the system architects realized they could build an empire not from gold but from promises.”Debt isn’t real,“ Frey whispered. But belief makes it so,“ Heka said. And so the system persists.”
Suddenly, the vault walls shuddered. The symbols on the tablets pulsed brighter. The light surrounding the coin darkened, twisting at the edges. A low vibration rose beneath Frey’s feet. ” You’ve disturbed the foundation,“ Heka said quietly.
The ground split beneath them. A deep fissure spread across the floor, revealing a chasm, and a presence stirred from the darkness below. Frey’s hand tightened around the coin. The vibrations grew sharper, and the walls began to crack. A cold wind swept through the vault, and shadows began to rise from the chasm’s depths.
Figures emerged: tall and thin, their faces hidden beneath hoods of black cloth. Their hands were long and clawed, tipped with iron rings: the Collectors.”They are the enforcers of the contract”, Heka said.
The Collectors advanced in perfect, mechanical unison. Their empty eyes glowed faintly beneath their hoods. Chains of shadow extended from their wrists, writhing toward Frey.”Release the coin”, one of them whispered. Their voices echoed unnaturally, layered beneath the sound of grinding metal.
Frey took a step back. The coin pulsed beneath his palm.
The chains shot toward him. Frey ducked, twisting to the side as the metal links struck the floor with a deafening crash. Sparks flew. The Collectors moved inhumanely, circling Frey and cutting off his exits. Frey’s eyes narrowed. His mind raced.”They control the system because of this coin”, Frey said. And as long as I hold it, “You are outside the contract”, Heka replied. Free, but dangerous.”
A chain whipped toward Frey’s chest. He twisted, barely dodging the strike.”They’re not trying to reclaim the coin,“ Frey said. They’re trying to keep me from using it”.
A figure stepped forward from the back of the line. Taller than the others, it lowered its hood, revealing a smooth, featureless face. Its eyes were silver coins, spinning endlessly within the hollows of its skull.”You are not meant to hold it”, the figure said, its voice layered with static. It was never for you.” Frey’s hand tightened around the coin.”Then why was it left unguarded?”
“It was not unguarded,“ the figure said. It was waiting.”
“Waiting for what?”
“For the one to choose. “Frey’s breath sharpened. He could feel the weight of the coin pressing into his palm. This was the source of the system’s power, its heart. And it was in his hand. Frey’s breath quickened, and his mind raced. He could feel the energy beneath the coin’s surface, a delicate balance of give and take. It wasn’t real. The system was built on belief. If he destroyed the coin, he would shatter the foundation. FrFrey’s gaze sharpened, his hand gripping the coin. His mind flashed back to the faces he had seen in the visions, generations of lives shaped by Debt, scarcity, and the illusion of control. If he destroyed the coin, he could free them.
But freedom without understanding was another form of slavery.”No, “Frey whispered. I’m not going to destroy it.”
The figure smiled.”Then what will you do?”
Frey raised the coin. “I’m going to rewrite the contract.”
A wave of energy exploded from the coin. The symbols on the walls shuddered and then reformed, twisting into new shapes. The chains of shadow retreated. The Collectors froze, their forms flickering.
The figure’s eyes widened. Frey’s eyes gleamed with quiet resolve.
The wall symbols are aligned, contracts have been rewritten, and balances have been restoredFrFrey’s gazeze lifted toward the figure.”You taught people to believe Debt was the price of survival. Frey’s hand curled around the coin. It’s time they learned the truth.”The Collectors began to dissolve, their forms unraveling into smoke. One figure remained, watching Frey with empty silver eyes.”You will be resisted,“ the figure said. Frey’s eyes narrowed.” And they try.”
The coin’s light pulsed brighter, illuminating the vault with golden radiance. Frey took a step forward, and the figure faded into shadow.”You’ve claimed the system”, Heka said, his voice calm. Now you decide what to build. Frey’s gaze sharpened. He stepped toward the exit. His hand still held the coin. “I’mm not going to build anything”“ Frey said.” I’m going to teach them how to build for themselves.”
“Place the coin in its rightful position,” Heka said calmly. Frey retrieved his ledger and flipped it over; the metal coin-shaped hole on the back was the exact size of the coin. As he held the coin closer, it snatched away from Frey’s hand and locked into place on the ledger. An eerie vibration surged throughout his body, but it quickly faded.
Another door opened to a long, dark corridor. Frey stepped through as the vault door closed behind him. The system was his now.
And for the first time, the rules belonged to him.

Building and maintaining a healthy credit score requires consistent effort and a proactive approach to managing financial habits.

Regularly Check Your Credit Report for Errors
Mistakes on your credit report, such as incorrect personal information or inaccurate accounts, can unfairly lower your score.
– Obtain your free credit report from trusted agencies once a year.
– Review account balances and payment history to identify any duplicate accounts.
– Please quickly dispute the inaccuracies with the credit bureau or creditor.
Instance:
David discovered an unpaid balance listed on his report that wasn’t his. After disputing the error and providing documentation, the credit bureau removed the item, improving his credit score by 40 points.
Increase Your Credit Limits (Without Increasing Spending)
A higher credit limit reduces your utilization ratio, which in turn boosts your credit score.
Strategy: Request a credit limit increase every 6-12 months if you have a solid payment history. You can contact your credit card company or request an increase, but please refrain from using the extra credit. (Easier said than done)
Instance: Lisa’s limit increases from $3,000 to $6,000, dropping her utilization from 40% to 20% and improving her score.
Don’t Close Old Accounts
Credit history length makes up 15% of your score. Closing old accounts shortens your history.
Strategy: Keep older accounts open, even if you don’t use them often. Use old cards for small purchases and pay them off to keep them active.
Instance:
Mike keeps his first credit card open and active, which helps maintain a credit history of over 10 years.

The system is not built on wealth; it’s built on consent.
Debt controls you because you believe you owe it.
However, if you understand the contract, you can modify its terms. You can control the system or let it control you.
Understand Borrowing and Debt Management
– Borrow only what you need and can afford to repay.
– Build a solid debt-to-income ratio (DTI) by managing debt levels.
Instance:
By saving for emergencies and adhering to a strict budget, Tom avoided unnecessary borrowing, which kept his debt-to-income ratio (DTI) low and helped him maintain a high credit score.
Maintaining a healthy credit score requires mindful practices, including making timely payments, borrowing responsibly, and regularly reviewing your credit report. Implementing these strategies enhances your financial profile and unlocks better opportunities for loans, housing, and economic independence. Consistent effort and intelligent financial habits are the foundation of long-term credit success.
Family Ladder Credit Strategy
If your family member is willing, you can create a multi-generation strategy:
– Add kids (13+) as authorized users on cards with a long history.
– Share financial literacy as they grow.
– They begin adulthood with 700+ scores.
This creates generational financial leverage, turning parental credit into a launchpad rather than a burden.
Set a Credit Milestone for Passive Income Access
Use your credit score as a milestone toward a financial goal. Example:
Score hits 720 → You unlock an Airbnb arbitrage deal.
Score hits 750 → You apply for a business line of credit to launch a scalable asset.
You gamify the journey. Credit becomes part of a larger wealth system, not just a number.
You become an Authorized User on a Great Card.
Get added to a parent, spouse, or friend’s well-managed credit card (long history, low usage, no late payments).
It boosts your credit age, limit, and payment history, even if you don’t use the card.
Use Rent, Utilities & Subscriptions to Boost Your Score
Use services like Experian Boost, BoomPay, or LevelCredit to report:
-
-
Rent
-
Netflix
-
Utilities (electric, phone, water)
-
These regular bills typically don’t significantly impact your credit, but adding them creates new on-time tradelines.
Credit Buffer Card
A strategy most use is to have one cash-back card for fixed monthly bills only. Another card for variable bills, and a final one for lifestyle expenses, which are never canceled and are paid in full at the end of each month.
This keeps a credit line open indefinitely, which helps with credit age and payment history, the two most challenging factors to build. You also earn card rewards, often in the form of cash back, simply for using your credit card first, rather than just paying from your bank account.
Use a Credit Buddy Strategy (Be careful who you pick)
You and a trusted friend or partner both have decent credit. Each of you adds the other as an authorized user to a well-managed card.
Mutual boost to credit file age, limits, and payment history.
Great for couples or siblings looking to level up credit before buying a home or applying for a loan.
Frey emerged from the vault, the coin still pulsing faintly in his palm. The golden light of the chamber faded behind him as the heavy stone door slid shut with a resonant thud. The hum of ancient mechanisms quieted, leaving only the sound of Frey’s steady breath in the darkened hall.”You understand it now”, Heka said, his voice low. FrFrey’s gaze sharpened. His mind still pulsed with the echoes of the contract, the shifting glyphs, the trembling signatures, and the weight of centuries of belief. He had touched the system’s foundation and felt the illusion that held it together.”I have the power to break it”, Frey said quietly. And now you know why they fear you,“ Heka replied.
Frey closed his hand. He felt the weight of the ledger more than ever before, not just physically, but also the weight of consent, control, and every life touched by the system’s invisible hand. His breath steadied.”No more half-measures”“ Frey said.”I’m going to change the system.”His path was no longer uncertain. He wasn’t walking blind anymore; he was walking toward confrontation.
Frey turned toward the darkened corridor. The path ahead was no longer a mystery. It was a choice.”I’m not afraid of them,“ Frey said. His voice was sharp with quiet resolve.” nd what will you build?“Heka as Frey ‘ss gaze hardened.”A way out””
